I love residential care home’s for the elderly because it brings our elderly people back into our community. In our American culture most elderly spend the majority of their time alone. Many suffer from boredom, loneliness and depression. At some point in their life most elderly (the norm not the unusual) can not care for themselves for the very basics of nutrition, hygiene and walking about safely. They become dependent on others. Therefore, they need to be with others. Working families are not able to spend enough time to provide adequate care and observation of their parents needs. Just add the hours even if you visited one or two hours every day it still leaves your parent alone for the remaining twenty two hours. This is a lot of time alone for an elderly person. It leaves a big gap of care and safety. This gap results in both stress and worry on the families part and risk to the parent’s safety. I love residential care homes because it puts our elderly in a small home setting with other people; the care staff, other residents, and the multitude of visitors, entertainers, volunteers, and families that visit with the sole purpose of enriching or enlarging their day. These homes are a place to be known, loved and cared for. During the day there are people to be engaged with and at night there is the security that they are not alone. I had a client tell me in my first years of owning my homes that what she liked best about Beach Homes is her feeling of safety. We can’t underestimate what it might feel like to be old and physically weak and to be alone. It is essential to protect our elderly from harm. To at least meet their basic needs. I love the elderly. I feel they are our invisible, unknown and often forgotten people. I have so enjoyed them and the laughs, memories, and friendships we have had along the way. It fills my heart and brings a smile to my face to think of my past residents. Equally important to caring for the elderly is to honor and value them. It is important to help them feel significant and purposeful and to aid them in participating in our community life. Our communities on all levels do not bring them into the fold so they become isolated. Residential care homes at least bring them into a social setting with their peers and in community and relationship with others. Residential care homes for the elderly are all unique. In my opinion they are the product of the ethics, integrity, education, personality and heart of the owner. In a way that a mother makes a home the administrator of a rcfe does the same thing. It is important to look at several rcfe’s when looking for a rcfe for your parent so you can best find what is a good fit for your parent and your family. I am here to help. Please contact me by email if I can be of service. Our vision at Beach homes is to create a place where residents, staff and families are cared for and encouraged to live life to its fullest and to be in community with each other.
